I have been looking for DIY home decor ideas recently.
Our walls are so barren and with a destructive toddler, we don’t ave a whole lot of decorations in our house. I see things that I like in some stores, but I am always loking for things that are just a little bit more personal. I stumbled upon the Cricut last year and thought it was a really neat machine, but then I kind of forgot about it. Then when I got back into planning, I found that a lot of ladies were making their own planner stickers with the Silhouette Cameo. That led me to research it more, and now I am pretty much obsessed with the thought of owning one! Since I don’t yet have either machine, I won’t get into why I prefer one over the other, other than to say that I have played with the Design software for the Cameo and I really like it. And I like that it is not web based, so I don’t need internet to create designs.
I’ve decided that the Cameo is the one thing I am going to treat myself with with our tax refund this year.
I feel like all of the things that I can create with it will save us money in the long run. So, I have already been working on a few projects. The first one that I am excited to complete is for my mom. My dad passed away last year, and my mom has not had the easiest time with it. Prior to the Holidays I had been searching for a gift that was special and meaningful, but I haven’t really been able to find anything that stood out to me. And then I found this photo of a glass block with a photo outline and the phrase “Your wings were ready, but my heart was not”. Just to practice I found the best close up photo of my dad that I could. I erased the background using Magic Eraser on my phone, traced it in Imaengine and touched it up in Adobe Capture. I am so happy with the way it came out!
It will be a few weeks before I actually get my Silhouette. I am going to play with it a bit and learn the ropes, but I will post a photo of the finished result when I complete it!
If you have a Silhouette or other cutting machine, I am always looking for inspiration and would love to see your creations!
